A Few Important Facts About Salt
Many people believe that salt is harmful to the human body. The truth is that we cannot live without salt (sodium chloride). The body makes hydrochloric acid from salt. Hydrochloric acid is one of the essential digestive fluids. There is not enough salt in our natural foods so we must supplement our diet. It is studied over the year that when salt is withheld weakness and sickness follow. Salt must be eaten in its natural state.
50 years ago, companies began to dry their salt in huge kilns. The temperature reached as high as 1200 degrees Fahrenheit. This changes the chemical structure of the salt. Many so called table salts have been bleached, refined and mixed with anti-caking agents and iodine. Some of the table salts also contain sugar in the form of dextrose meant to disguise the harsh or bitter flavor.
